John started his safety journey as a health and safety representative in the Defence force before studying occupational health and safety at tertiary level and working across Government, Industry and Consulting in safety-related roles
John’s professional safety journey has taken him to the wilds of China’s mining industry between 2001-2015 where he was awarded a China Friendship Medal for his contribution work safety in developing China.
In the midst of 2005, John founded the Australasian Mine Safety Journal, a leading publication serving the safety interests of parties across the resources and energy sector that has grown to an audience of 40K miners across the Asia Pacific Region. John still serves today as the organisation’s consulting editor.
What’s unique about John (for a safety guy) is he has worked in many senior management operational roles from Regional Manager in the Retail Industry, General Manager for a major importer of products in the resources sector and Chief Executive Officer for a progressive media company.
John understands the pressures of management on safety and the need to create a positive culture to improve safety across industries. He’s also at home talking with the guys on the shop floor as he is addressing a board room of senior executives.
John is a hands-on, no BS guy who can light a room with his many heartwarming moments about his work health and safety journey including:
- Working with villagers in the Chining mining industry;
- Crying with the families of those killed in major traumatic events; and
- Challenging Governments to initiate improvements for the betterment of work safety.
